Trans Rites
a ministry of possibility
Welcome, humans. I'm so glad you've found your way here.
"Trans Rites" is the name I give to a ministry that takes many forms: speculative sacraments, rituals for futures not yet arrived, blessings and ceremonies made with and for people the existing liturgies were never written to hold. It is rooted in a simple conviction — that to transition, in any sense, is to practice believing in a future your body or your circumstance had not yet been given permission to imagine. That is a trans experience. It is also, precisely, a sacramental one.
This ministry moves through many forms — ritual and ceremony, speculative installation and social practice art, teaching, spiritual direction, community organizing, systems design, and the ongoing work of Speculative Solidarities: building sanctuary infrastructure, care networks, and sacred technologies for communities navigating collapse, transition, and possibility all at once.
who does this ministry serve
Is this ministry for trans people? For queer people? Yes — and.
I take a harm reduction approach to the co-creation and stewarding of ever-evolving faith technologies, as well as to resisting and working to counter the harm that has too often been carried out in the name of religion. This means my ministry is explicitly interested in repair, healing, and making space for those who have been cast out, stigmatized, pathologized, and forced to choose between their lives and loves and promises of safety, care, community, and belonging.
And yet: it moves primarily from a position of curiosity, welcome, and compassion. I move from a position of transness and queerness as a theological and spiritual center — modeling a blueprint of radical liberatory change for all beings.
